Does Earth have more water or more land?

We used this beach ball globe to test our prediction that there is more water on Earth. The ball was passed to students and they had to tell the class if their right thumb landed on water or land.

We had one student keep a tally and the results are...

We were correct!!

Germs!!

We learned about germs and how to wash our hands correctly!

I first put lotion on my hands and glitter (the lotion makes it stick!). The glitter was to represent germs.

I then gave Casey a high five.

Casey looked at her hands and she got some of my germs! Gross! 😄

She then touched Karan's hands and the germs even passed to him!

We learned to sing the "happy birthday" song in our heads and wash our palms, tops of our hands and between our fingers.

Dr. MLK Jr.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, we met with our third grade buddies in two groups. One day the students completed activities with me, the second day they went with Mr. Spicer.

In my group we began by having conversations about what we already knew about Martin Luther King jr.

We then read a book about him!

We completed an activity with eggs! It helped remind us that no matter what we look like on the outside, we are all the same inside!

Our buddies then worked with us to complete a sheet to recall what happened in Dr. King's life as well as his dream!

Quarters

We know that putting movement with learning a new concept always helps us remember it better! So today we made a train and chanted out how we count quarters... 25, 50, 75, a dollar (or 100). Feel free to practice at home.

Don't forget to point!

Our students know how important it is to pick up our fingers and point to each word we are reading. Mrs. Sasser got us these fun fingers to help us remember and practice!

Coins!

We are learning about coins! We spent time with partners comparing pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. If we looked really closely with our magnifying glass at the back of the penny, we saw Abraham Lincoln's statue in his memorial!
